Hazeta shkol’na

Hazeta shkol’na [«Газета школьна»; School Newspaper]. Periodical devoted to education, published semimonthly in Lviv from 27 May 1875 to the end of 1879 (from 1877 it was also a literary journal). A total of 110 issues appeared. It was published and edited by Omelian Partytsky, who also was author of many articles on pedagogical, historical, and literary subjects. Contributors included Oleksander Barvinsky, Omelian Ohonovsky, Hryhorii Vretsona, S. Kurylovych, O. Oryshkevych, Z. Savchynsky, and Roman Zaklynsky. Literary works by such writers as Taras Shevchenko, Markiian Shashkevych, Yurii Fedkovych, Marko Vovchok, Mykola Ustyianovych, Oleksander Konysky, Fedir Zarevych, and Sydir Vorobkevych were also published. The journal published articles on the methodology of teaching various subjects and on cultural and economic issues, as well as reviews, biographies, and reports from the homeland. Hazeta shkol’na was populist in character and advocated the use of Ukrainian in schools.
