Diachuk, Wasyl
Diachuk, Wasyl or William [Дячук, Василь; Djačuk, Vasyl'], b 8 October 1929 in Vegreville, Alberta, d 17 October 2014 in Edmonton. Politician. He obtained a Certificate in Social Work form the University of Alberta and served as a trustee on the Edmonton Separate (Catholic) School Board from 1962 to 1971, Diachuk was elected to the Alberta legislature in 1971, representing the constituency of Edmonton Beverly for the Progressive Conservative party until 1986. After serving as deputy speaker (1971–5), he was appointed minister responsible for workers’ health, safety, and compensation (1979–86). Diachuk was active in Edmonton’s Saint Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic parish, the Ukrainian Professional and Business Club of Edmonton, the Ukrainian Canadian Social Services, and the Bishop Budka Charitable Society.
