Bilozersky, Vasyl
Bilozersky, Vasyl [Bilozers'kyj, Vasyl'], b 1825 in Motronivka, Borzna county, Chernihiv gubernia, d 4 March 1899 in Saint Petersburg. Civic and cultural figure, journalist, and pedagogue. Bilozersky authored a program for peasant schools and a memorandum on the statutes of the Cyril and Methodius Brotherhood, to which he belonged as a moderate. For his involvement with the brotherhood he was exiled to Petrozavodsk (Olonets gubernia), where he served in the governor's chancellery. From the 1850s he lived in Saint Petersburg, where he published the journal Osnova (Saint Petersburg) (1861–2). He maintained contacts with Galician figures and contributed to the Lviv periodicals: the monthly Meta and the journal Pravda.
