Vorony, Marko [Вороний, Марко; Voronyj], b 5 March 1904 in Chernihiv, d 3 November 1937 in the Solovets Islands. (Photo: Marko Vorony.) Poet; son of Mykola Vorony. In the mid-1920s he published his poems in Literaturno-naukovyi vistnyk in Lviv, under the pseudonym Marko Antiokh. Under the same name he later published verse in Chervonyi shliakh, Zhyttia i revoliutsiia, Hlobus, and other journals. Collections of his poetry include Chervoni kravatky (Red Ties, 1930) and Forvard: Chotyry zoshyty virshiv (Forward: Four Notebooks of Poetry, 1932). He was arrested in March 1935 and was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment in the Solovets Islands. On 9 October 1937 he was resentenced by an NKVD tribunal to death by firing squad.
