Lemyk, Mykola, b 4 April 1914 in Solova, Peremyshliany county, Galicia, d October 1941 in Myrhorod, Poltava oblast. (Portrait: Mykola Lemyk.) Revolutionary figure. He studied law at Lviv University and joined the youth branch of the Organization or Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) in the early 1930s. In protest against the Famine-Genocide of 1932–3 Lemyk assassinated O. Mailov, a representative of the Soviet consulate in Lviv, on 21 October 1933. His death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment, and he escaped from a Polish prison convoy after the fall of Poland in September 1939. In 1941 he was one of the leaders of the OUN expeditionary groups in eastern Ukraine. He was hanged by the Gestapo.
