Zubrytsky, Mykhailo
Zubrytsky, Mykhailo [Зубрицький, Михайло; Zubryc'kyj, Myxajlo], b 22 October 1856 in Kindrativ, Turka county, Galicia, d 8 April 1919 in Berehy Dolishni, Lisko county, Galicia. Historian, ethnographer, and Greek Catholic priest (from 1883); member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society from 1904; father of Volodymyr Zubrytsky. He attended the gymnasium in Drohobych with Ivan Franko and later studied at the Greek Catholic Theological Seminary in Lviv and Peremyshl Greek Catholic Theological Seminary. He researched the history of Galicia in the 19th century and published a wealth of materials on the history of the Galician village of Mshanets (Zapysky Naukovoho tovarystva im. Shevchenka [ZNTSh], vols 70–9 [1906–7]), the years 1846–61 in Galicia (ZNTSh, vol 26 [1898]), recruitment in Galicia from the end of the 18th century to the middle of the 19th century (ZNTSh, vol 42 [1901]), the Ruthenian clergy in Galicia in 1820–53 (ZNTSh, vol 88 [1909]), the village clergy in Galicia in the 17th and 18th centuries (ZNTSh, vol 51 [1903]), and parish libraries of the Peremyshl eparchy (ZNTSh, vol 90 [1909]). He also researched the ethnology of the Boiko region and contributed articles to the journals Zhytie i slovo and Dilo. A three-volume edition of his Zibrani tvory i materiialy (Collected Works and Materials), edited by Frank Sysyn et al, was published in Lviv (volume 1 in 2013; volume 2 in 2016, and volume 3 in 2019).
